While we realize that the title of this piece may trigger algebra flashbacks from high school, the message we aim to bring is simple — not always easy — but simple: that everyone should make Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (plus belonging, if you're from Team Applied) priority in their lives.
"Diversity doesn't look like anyone. It looks like everyone."
— Karen Draper
Our Women in Technology (WTA) Community of Interest (COI) prepared an action-packed month where we honored, commemorated, and elevated women who have shattered barriers and championed fairness and inclusivity.
We:
Educated ourselves and others about impressive, inclusive women through our Bias Breakers series. The women we highlighted were: Maria Telkes, Stephanie VanPutten, Mary Ann Wilkes, and Roxanne Bras Petraeus.
Empowered others to step into new spaces and try new things through our speaker series. This month we had a woman associated with Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) who is a Security Analyst in the security operations and threat monitoring space speak to us about the importance of DEI&B and the role of mentoring in those values.
Entertained a large audience through an Unexpected Virtual Tour which focused on sharing the untold story of female inventors, artists, and leaders from the 1800s to the present day.
WTA and the Communities of Interest here at Applied have many opportunities to honor women and their contributions to the workplace always, not just during Women’s History Month.
